The Christmas Days

This post is about my second month of life. We didn't take many pictures except during the 14 days we were at home in Illinois.  Mamma says that a picture is worth 1,000 words.  We must have had a million words to say because this post has 1,000 pictures.

In brief, in my second month I have been talking a lot more, eating a lot more, and learning to sleep a little better (my record so far is 6 hours one night, but usually I still get up every 3-4 hours).   I went to the beach for the first time while Mamma had a CME in Santa Monica.  I spent my first Sunday morning in the church nursery while Mamma and Daddy played on the worship team.

My eyes are still dark blue. Except on the days they are brown.  Or the days they are sort of a dark green. Mamma says my eyes are chameleons! Later this month I started to notice things hanging above me (like in my pack n play and on my playmat).  And I started smiling.  A lot.  My first smile was for Daddy at about 5 weeks old.  He got close to me and made a funny surprised face and I just couldn't help it, I had to grin! Mamma tried not to feel to jealous but I smile at her a lot now too.  She says I'm such a good boy for learning to smile right before we went home to meet all of my family.

When I was 6 and 1/2 weeks old we packed up everything in our whole house to take on the plane.

We took a drive to LA and Mamma was so worried about us making it to the airport on time that we were there 3 hours early.  I was such a good boy while we waited in the terminal...even though Daddy and I were bored.  I got a little cranky when they changed our gate for the third time. I was awake when I got on the plane (everyone thought I was the cutest thing!) but I fell asleep in Mamma's arms when the plane was taxi-ing and I didn't wake up until we got to St Louis airport! I usually love my stroller but after going 400 miles an hour the stroller wasn't very fun anymore.  It was late so we went to a hotel and slept for a little bit.

My first meeting was with Dennis and Donna....Mamma says they are practically like her Grandparents.  They have waited to see me for so long. Donna told me all about her wrist surgery.  Dennis told me there are only two things I need to learn right now: 1) Jesus Loves me and 2) Willie Mayes is the best.  I wish I knew who Willie Mayes was.

Dennis and Donna took us from our airport hotel to a restaurant where we got to meet Grandpa Brad for the first time! He was nice and let Grandma Beth hold me first, because she was so excited to see me again.  The first time I saw Grandpa Brad I said "Nnnn-gah!"...so Grandpa Brad says that's his name now.

That night when we got home I met Uncle T for the first time.  I was hungry so Mamma made him feed me right away.  He was good at baby feeding!

A couple of days later, my GiGi came to town all the way from TX!

I had a lot of fun playing with GiGi, she had the perfect comfortable positions for me to sit in and she was always looking out for my cold feet and putting my socks back on.

Uncle T is awesome.  I like his beard.  I like his beanie.  I like his smile.

I still love looking at Daddy, especially while he is singing to me or talking to me. He sings to me all the time.  I love it.

On Christmas Eve Grandma Beth made us fondue! We had cheese fondue with bread and veggies, then meat fondue with dipping sauces, then chocolate fondue with cakes and fruits.  Mamma was stuffed! I got to taste it later.

Here we are before the Christmas Eve service.  Mamma says it's important to take pictures while everyone is all dressed up.  I don't know why we have to take so many pictures.  Daddy says that's what we do to keep Mamma happy.

Gigi wanted a picture with all 4 generations!

On Christmas morning, everyone was excited.  They were making too much noise.  I had to plug my ears.  I just wanted to sleep.

My first Christmas present was a beautiful knit blanket from Grandma Beth.  The present was almost as big as me! So was my stocking.  Luckily my bib fit great.

We did so much more talking and smiling and getting to know each other.

When Grandpa Brad sings it puts me right to sleep. He sings bass.  He says that I will be a bass.  Daddy says I can be whatever I want. Bass notes put me to sleep because they make all of me vibrate.

After several days at the Holmes house, we went across town to the Higgins house! It was a very different place.  Instead of everyone sitting around looking at me and trying to learn about parenting and grandparenting, there were more cousins than I could count, and Nana and Gramps aren't surprised by anything (although they do have their hands very full)!

Mamma called it "amazingly wonderful chaos" because at any time there were at least 2 babies napping and one eating and one falling down the stairs or trying to get through a baby gate and one pulling playing cards off of the table and one hugging or smiling or laughing or talking to someone.  I have such cool cousins and I can't wait until I can walk or at least crawl to keep up with them all.

My cousin Ollie was stealing my cousin Lita's bow.  Thats why I'm giving him the stink eye.

Gramps and Nana with all of the cousins!

This is the whole family!

My cousin Asher is so nice.  He took care of me under the play mat and showed me what to look at.  And he let me wear his construction worker's hat.

Aunt Cici and Uncle Jon came to town later that week, and we finally got to hang out! Aunt Cici fed me and rocked me and made every expression I might laugh at.  She also let me help her win 7 Wonders.  Uncle Jon taught me about baseball and math and told me my penguin outfit was the best.

Aunt Cici and Uncle Jon made everyone an asian "hot pot" meal...Mamma said it was DELICIOUS but it hurt my tummy a lot.  The three of us didn't sleep much that night.

Aunt Cici made me maybe my most awesome present...it's a collection of nativity character finger puppets! Mamma says they are going to be perfect for Advent when I'm a little older.

We stayed in Illinois for 2 weeks, and it was amazing.  We got to celebrate my first New years too!

While we were in Illinois I turned two months old! Mamma says these sock monkey jammies are her favorite.  She doesn't know how I got so old so fast she says! Here I am getting ready for bed on my two month birthday.  I love Grandma Beth's blanket!

While we were home, we looked at a lot of photo albums.  Here are some pictures of Mamma at 2 days, 6 weeks, and 3 months.  Don't we look alike??

But wait till you see these...here are some pictures of Daddy at 1 month! Mamma says now we know where I get my eyebrows!

On our last day in Illinois, we went on a cold but fun walk with all of my cousins.  It was fun to get to wear the bear snowsuit that GiGi got me for Christmas.  I'm so glad I had it, because we aren't used to being cold!

We feel so amazingly thankful that we got to be home for such a long time.  It was very hard to leave. Mamma cried a lot.  But it was also good to come home to our new home and to be together.  Mamma goes back to work soon, but we aren't thinking about that yet.  We are enjoying the days together.  Daddy says I should slow down growing just a little bit.  I'll think about it.
