the days of growing

Mamma and I have been soooooo busy the last few weeks we have hardly had time to write or sit down! This month we went on a LONG trip through Nevada and Utah and Colorado, and we got to visit with Great grandma Dorothy, Uncle Jon and Aunt Cici, Uncle TJ, and Grandma and Grandpa Holmes.  In the mountains Mamma says the air is thinner which is why she had to stop to breathe a lot while we hiked along the streams and around the little towns, and out in the fields.  We caught a lot of fish and Daddy was Mamma's caddy and helped her with all her snags and worms.  Daddy caught his first fish using a fly and that was very exciting! Mamma and Daddy and I also had fun riding the four wheeler and making camp fires and playing lots of games with the family.  We didn't want to leave because the air was so cool and it was so fun to be with our family...but we also had a great time on our road trip.  We stopped every few hours to let Mamma walk, and to look at the strange rocks in Utah, and to eat yummy foods.  We also stopped at Zion National Park and did a hike, it was beautiful!

Now that we are home, there is a lot to do...like going back to Mammas work and getting Daddy ready to start school and band camp.  We are also still trying to buy a house and we are waiting so long to finally hear an answer! Last week Mamma started packing in the garage because we have so much stuff and she says it's time to pack something after all this waiting! Mamma says she is getting nervous I might get born in a moving van. While she waits Mamma has been doing a lot of shopping on the Amazon, and is trying to pick out colors for my room and a crib for me to sleep in and some decorations to hang up.  Daddy says its not really fair that I get my own room and it's the nicest room in the house and I won't even notice it...but Mamma wants a nice place for me to start growing and for her to rock me all those times that I am eating or crying or going to sleep.  Mamma says it's hard to pick out things for a room when we don't have a house yet.  She hopes we can get one soon.

This week I am 29 weeks old (actually I'm closer to 30 weeks from what our doctor says, but Mamma says she doesn't want to start counting past 40 if I come late!)...and I am growing so much! I am about 16 inches long, and between 2.5 and 3 pounds.  Mamma says I'm about the size of a pineapple.  Daddy says talking about me like I'm a fruit or a veggie every week is silly.  Mamma can feel me moving all through the day now, but I'm not kicking quite as much as I am rolling and stretching and pressing my elbow or knee into her side...I'm starting to run out of room in her belly so I have to keep my movements a little smaller! We had an ultrasound this week and I finally have my head going the right direction, so Mamma says good job!  The doctor also says I have very chubby cheeks, and while he was looking at me I was sucking my thumb.  Mamma was surprised that she could see not just my eye sockets but my eyelids on the ultrasound...I'm getting big enough she can see lots of details!

I have learned so many things since we wrote last.  My eyelids and nostrils are open and I can inhale and open and close my eyes now.  My hearing is getting really good and I can hear Daddy's voice if he is close to me and I can here the music he plays and sings for me.  My brain is getting bigger and Mamma says I am starting to have more personality already, sometimes she thinks she can even tell what it is!  My hair is getting thicker and my muscles are getting stronger and my ears are finally in the right spot on my head.  Mamma says I'm almost long enough to come out now, but I have a lot of weight to gain before I will be comfy in the cold on the outside of her.  I'm glad it will be cold outside when I come out because this week it is so hot! Mamma is sweaty all the time, and Daddy needs blankets and sweatshirts sometimes inside the house.

Mamma is starting to feel me more in her body now that I am getting so big...she says her stretchymarks are getting darker and bigger, and she feels me in her hips and her back a little this week.  She has a few maternity shirts that might be too small in another week or two...I'm trying to be nice, but Mamma is definitely growing now too!  A lot of Mamma's patients are getting excited about me coming and are starting to give her ideas for names and things to buy.  Mamma also is getting a lot of hand-me-down clothes and toys, and even a little bedside sleeper for me to use when I am very small.  "The baby pile" as Mamma is calling it is getting much bigger.

Mamma and Daddy are pretty sure they have my first name picked out, but middle names are even harder!  They might be still deciding but they have started talking to me a little just to try it out.  Soon my name will be mine and they won't be able to change it!
