The days of feeling

Mama says she is sure this time.

This morning she sat down to write an email and kept feeling a little jerking in her tummy.  It happened 5 or 6 times and then it stopped.  Then she was cleaning and working all day, but she sat down just now and she felt me again.  3 little flutters all in the same place and then a flippy feeling.  I was turning over and trying to get comfortable because she has been walking a lot today!  I like to move around when she finally sits still.

Today I am 14 weeks and 5 days old, and I am about the size of a lemon.  I weigh 1.5 oz! Mama says I'm supposed to double in size every week for the next month or so, so she is trying to sleep a lot and eat lots of vegetables and meat.  This week I am growing fuzzy tiny hairs all over my body to keep me warm. I also am finishing developing my ears, and my eyes can see some light behind them even though they don't open yet.  I can bend my elbows and my knees so I can get good at kicking Mama.  Mama also says her books say I can make facial expressions now.  I'm getting so grown up already.

Daddy likes to watch the videos that tell what I am doing each week, and then he says things to help me to keep growing.  This week he said "go little buddy, move 'dem elbows!"  So I have been, because I want Daddy to be proud of me.

This week, Mama started asking some friends and some of my aunts about baby growing and baby birthing and baby raising.  She says there are so many questions she doesn't know how to answer, so she is getting ideas about what scary books to read and what things she will need for her pregnancy, and how to get ready to bring me to the world.  The doctor is even asking her a lot of questions she doesn't know the answers to, like what tests she wants done, and where she will deliver me, and whether or not she wants to circumcise me if I am a boy.  I don't know what circumcision is but is sounds like not very much fun.  She is in her second trimester now, and that is SO exciting, but I think she feels like I am coming soon and she is worried about how much there is to know.

Aunt Cici (Casey) sent me my first present this week! It is a beautiful baby book with lots of sweet poems and quotes and some beautiful drawings.  There is lots of room for Mama to write all the things I do, now and after I am born.  It is grey and has a smooth soft cover with bunny rabbits on it.  Mama can't stop touching it.  People keep offering to give me clothes already, and asking if they can throw me a baby shower, and Mama's friend Katherine even offered her some baby carriers and bassinets and other things to help with me when I come.  The doctor gave her a bunch of magazines and a kit about breastfeeding, so I have my own pile of stuff in our house now.  Lots of other mamas are giving her advice and telling her about what is coming.  Mama says there are so many people who love me already, and I think they love her and Daddy a lot too.  Mama says God is already providing for me and for us.

Mama has been taking lots of pictures of people lately, that seems to be one of her favorite things to do.  I'm not sure why we have to walk through the weeds and crouch down on rocks and lay in fields to do it, but that seems to be an important part.  We took pictures of baby Emsley and her parents this month, and tomorrow we are going to take some pictures of baby Cooper. Mama says it is good practice because when I get out of this dark place she is going to want to take lots of pictures of me.

The whole world knows I'm coming now because Mama and Daddy put a picture of me on the book of faces.  They say that everyone is happy and excited, and that everyone likes their music joke.  Mama says it is "nerdy."  I don't know what nerdy means but she says thats what she and daddy are, so maybe I will be nerdy too.

Baby Higgins is me! Daddy says thats my last name, and its a good name too.  Its the name Daddy gave Mama.

We don't have a song to share today because there is too much going on and Mama is trying to get dinner made before Daddy comes home, but we wanted to share the happy news!
